did you put burning up to maximum?
I've heard that Memorex isn't all that good, I use TDK CD-R's. And I can burn at 48x.
Bigdawg there is a setting your missing I Have a 48 speed can set my burn speed to what ever i like from 4 to 48 using nero 6 too. Doesn't matter what brand of cd's i use

If you've burnt above 16x before and it's only lately slowed down, it's quite possible you have the same problem as I had. Go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager>IDE/ATAPI controller.
Then go to either primary or secondary channel depending on the placement of the cd-rw drive. Go to Advanced Settings and have a look at the "Current Transfer Mode" for the cd-rw drive. What does it say there?
On a given day or given circumstance, you think you have a limit.
And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit and you think "Ok, this is the limit".
As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further.
