What is your opinion of the best media player? What are the pros and cons of each? I have been using Windows Media Player 9.

WMP is crap.
It's made by Micro$oft so basically, it's crap!
Don't ever trust those all-in-one wonders. They are always crap.
WMP plays music, movies, rips CDs and it can even burn CDs... Yeah right.
Use specific software for specific tasks.
This is what I use:
Play music ---> Winamp
Play movies ---> BSPlayer
Rip CDs ---> CDex
Burn Cds ---> Nero

Yes, I know.
That's why I called it an all-in-one wonder (crap).
The "Yeah right" part is because WMP does all that but has serious issues.
If you don't believe me, just check out some of the many posts in this forum, concerning about problems while using WMP, for any of those tasks.

The only problem I have had with WMP9 is that it won't rip high quality MP3's. In order to do so, you have to find a plugin (or buy one form a MS approved website). The MP3 default is set at 56 kbs and cannot be changed.
I have use 9 to burn a few discs and it seems to work for that application. I don't watch movies on my PC so I can't comment on that function.
I have also used WinAmp 3 and Music Match jukebox. I didn't like to UI for either program and MM crashed too much for my liking.
How is CDex to use? I need a good prog for that.

Try out Light Alloy for movies. You'd be amased with its speed and abilities.
WMP 6.4 is simply inferior to this player in all aspects.

as long as that's winamp 2
for ripping CD's i'd recomend Easy CD-DA Extractor 4.7.1 over CDex, while CDex is extralmly good, easy just feels better to me (have used both now for a number of years)
