REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 12, 2004 -- On Thursday, Microsoft became aware that portions of the Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0 source code were illegally made available on the Internet. It’s illegal for third parties to post Microsoft source code, and we take such activity very seriously.

We are currently investigating these postings and are working with the appropriate law-enforcement authorities.

At this point it does not appear that this is the result of any breach of Microsoft’s corporate network or internal security.

At this time there is no known impact on customers. We will continue to monitor the situation.

the full uncompressed source code for windows is about 40 gigs big.

this is only part of the code but it could be of massive help to certain open source products trying to have better compatibility with windows.

wine for instance would end up including code from people that have viewed this source code.
Im just waiting for some clever bunch of programers to try to run their linux kernels under windows that would be fun.

I was reading up and it appears those weird named .eml files
win2k/private/genx/ie/tokens/words of wisdom from dennis.eml
are left over from being infected by nimidia. it appears a virus scanner has cleaned the files since they are zero in length but it must have left a backdoor open for the code to be stolen.

microsoft have confirmed that a portion of their code is circulating
here

edit: it appears this code was leaked from mainsoft somebody is gonna be in big trouble.

PWD=/usr/ms/win2k_sp1/private/security/msv_sspi

I saw a story a while back on uk tv that 98/me source codes were stolen by hackers. At the time i thought it was just a ploy by microsoft to sell more copies of its (then) newly released windows xp.

Does microsoft have another os they can release in a hurry , maybe the previews of longhorn were misleading and they have a fully working version ready to launch.

i dont think you can corrupt a torrent. it is split into chunks and if any chunk becomes corrupt it is redownloaded.

the best m$ can do is either get the seeder shutdown, the tracker shutdown or have massive amount of bandwidth to corrupt a small part of every chunk so people have to keep redownloading but that is just a stall.

it is possible to create currupt parts its very hard but im sure microsfot are capable of doing this...

poor bill

Was any XP source code released? Will anyone be able to create (new) exploits that wont be picked up by my av and firewall for XP?

Looks like they're gonna have to pull another OS out of their ass.
Here comes Windows XP Second Edition.

Another OS up their sleeve? Nope, Lornhorn's all they got.

XP sourcecode released... nope, but XP is based on a lot of the same code, so.... kind of. If a virus can infect 2000, NT, first of all it'll probably infect any windows machine, but hit XP as well. And if it's gonna be something a virus scanner can't get rid of, probably not. The sourcecode is very smal, but it wasn't virus scanner sourcecode. But if one can understand how a virus scanner ineteracts with say... the NTKernel, that could be bad. So there may or may not be some bad viruses coming. But if anti-viruses can't hack it, then there will just be a specialized virus removall tool, like the ones listed HERE

From the Win98 source code:

ON (ANY RANDOM ACTION) GOTO: BSOD
I love this.

This kinda sucks for some developers though. If a developer wants to work on an open source project and has already seen M$ source code, then admits it, he probabloy won't be accepted....

Don't do something you'll regret. M$ code isn't that good anyway B)

Click for more activation options, then activate by telephone. Run the keygen.
if I call them, aren't they going to get me? (you know, down there)
