i am planning on buying an ASUS P4C800 E Deluxe, and a P4 3.0ghz CPU. Does this seem to be a good idea? I happen to like ASUS boards, plus it has the hyper thread shit. any alternative ideas that i should explore before commiting?

Looks good to me!
In fact thinking of buying the very same motherboard soon as well.
One other thing, what graphics card you gonner get?
i already have a Radeon 9500 pro 128
u might also consider the abit ic7-g max 3. it's just a tiny bit more expensive, but it's got some good features.
You could consider AMD for the same performance and alot less money..if you want.
[SIZE=1]AMD 4200 X2 @ 2.65Ghz, ASRock 939-VSTA
1.75GB PC3200, 2 X 160GB Seagate w/ 8MB Buffer
HIS Radeon X800 Pro, Antec Super Lanboy Aluminum
bullshit, the AMD 3000 32-bit version doesn't compare. if he wanted to match or go beyond it'd be a better idea to go with the Athlon64 3000+ instead. if i were him tho thats actually what i'd do but im waiting for Intels 64-bit to see how they compare to AMD 64.Originally posted by bigdawgfoxx@14 February 2004 - 09:14

if you notice i said amd you dumbass. I didnt say 32bit or 64bit or 128bit version..i just said any amd. You can get a 3200 for 90 bux which will be just the same as a 3.0 P4
but then in ur last sentence u agree with me and say thats what you would do?

intels 64 bit for desktops isnt coming out for a LONG while ppls
Yah...and how the hell does AMD mean XP? lol..it means amd..and he didnt say anything about 64bit so i duno how he got on that...and intel wont be here for a while
i just told him to get a 90 dollar procesor (2500XP)which will be equal to the 3.0 P4 if he wanted to save money..

I know where your going with this, seeing as how you can simply overclock the 2500+ to 3200+ levels, and it will indeed be on par with the 3.0 P4. But in that same sense, he can overclock the 3.0p4, to probably up top 3.8 or so, with decent to excellent cooling.....Originally posted by bigdawgfoxx@14 February 2004 - 13:19
