i thought the 5v or the 7v mod was to switch the wires. how could a switch do the mod?

like how could a switch that i flip switch the voltages?
teh switch has 2 positions and theree wires hook up to it:

one wire will be either the black or red on the fan, one wire will be the 5\7v line on the molex plug, and the last will be the 12v line.

and teh second wire of the fan goes to the ground on the molex.

Or you could just make your own potentiometer.......... thats what fan controllers are.....

And btw keep in mind, that to get it silent, you might have to take away alot of its cooling ability.

How do you think we could tell you that?

Try it out and find out. Report back to us with the information so we'll know.

    Agreed.

Its a case by case basis, based on cooling conditions, the fan, and what your idea of quiet is.

The capacity of the CPU to handle the heat is also a factor.

my guess, GUESS, is that the temps will go up about 5 degrees if you put teh speed to half, but that is only a guess and there is no way to know for sure unless you try it yourself.

thats not too bad. rite now, my room is boiling at 70F, watever that is in C, and my cpu's doing 34C after playing nsfu.

    i'll check it out.

Your temps/ DBa outputs will change depending on just how much you lower the RPM. So if you have it running at 1000rp, it'll be silent, but your temps will be higher.

I have a valcano 12 on my 1900+ (running at 1.8ghz), and theres about a 5-6c difference between the lowest RPM and the highest RPM (under normal use)
