Those breather holes have extremely fine filters behind them.

If you take an old (defective) drive apart you can see the filters.

OK,
I had this video in which a guy demonstrated how a harddisk really works.He loaded the window through an opened harddisk and there is no problem at all. He sucessfully loaded the windows O.S In the end he said that the problem really comes as lynx mentioned before when the dust particle comes in between the cushion and the head. Well how it comes that depends on the way u ............

that picture scared me, i looked at it for a few minutes trying to find that breather hole then i looked at the disc and saw the guy taking the picture looking at me, it was scary
