I have tried a number of different speaker setups, for a long time that was Sprocket's main function.
Although computer speakers have come a long way, my final ( and best, IMO) solution was to run the signal from my PC to a regular stereo amp and use standard home stereo speakers.
Surround sound is nice, but the wiring is a nightmare.
Just regular speakers work well and have far more bass than typical PC subs.
I got my whole setup at a garage sale for $50.
Old stereo rigs are abundant and cheap.
