Go to board settings and you can double the amount of threads you get per page (avoids loosing the "unread icons")

"Number of posts to show for each topic page"
*Click*
-Choose Number of posts to show (I like 30, but up to 40 isn't bad either)-
"Change My Account Options"

done. much less page clicking.
