How about this? I'm sure the other manufacturers will be bringing out similar sized drives before too long.Originally posted by lynx+11 March 2004 - 16:38--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td>QUOTE (lynx @ 11 March 2004 - 16:38)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'>Originally posted by Mad Cat@11 March 2004 - 13:31

2. Media transfer rate = 757Mb/s - that's Megabits per second = 95MB/s. So media rate is slower than interface rate. Average.
Excuse me? Find me a hard drive thats somewhere near 400 gigs that can keep a sustained 100MB/s + transfer rate.
I didn't say it was poor, or anything like that. But it isn't exactly stunning either, although admittedly you have to pay a lot for very high performance drives. [/b][/quote]
I said sustain.
That will be its peak transfer rate, and you know these manufacturers. I haven't known any 7200 RPM hard drive that can, SATA or not.
No, I meant why is he using a Beta service pack...especially one from M$Originally posted by Mad Cat@11 March 2004 - 09:15

On a given day or given circumstance, you think you have a limit.
And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit and you think "Ok, this is the limit".
As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further.
With your mind power, your determination, your instinct and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

Sorry, I thought you wanted to compare like with like. I didn't realise you wanted a sustained transfer rate to compare against a maximum transfer rate. Still, you know these manufacturers.![]()

What I meant by the manufacturers comment is that they may "distort" the truth a "little" bit
Theres no point in anything about 100 MB/s for an IDE hard drive really, or is this on SATA? Oh well I can't remember.

Microsoft chairman and chief software architect Bill Gates has outlined Microsoft?s security strategy for the coming year in a letter to customers.
Security changes will be included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Long term, systems such as caller ID-style technologies for email and behavioural monitoring of software will be introduced.
"Given human nature, evolving threat models and the increasing interconnectedness of computers, the number of security exploits will never reach zero. But we can dramatically blunt the impact of cybercriminals, and are dedicating a major portion of our research and development investments to security advances," Gates wrote in the letter.
SP2 will be released by June. It will strengthen the Windows firewall and turn it on by default, block unsolicited downloads from web sites. It will also include software to work with the new generation of processors, such as the AMD FX 53, which have some anti-virus capability built in. The full letter can be seen on http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/execmail/
I could be wrong, but that sounds like they're trying to police the interweb.
