SkyOS is a free operating system written from scratch for x86 PC's. As required for a modern operating system it supports features like multiprocessor support (SMP), virtual memory, memory protection, multitasking and threading etc. Additionally SkyOS has a built-in GUI system named SkyGI. All features of the OS will be explained later in detail.

I remember there being a big stink abaout the guy who wrote skyos using gnu code and then not releasing his source code. he promised the moment the 5.0 release is done he will release all his code.
I think im gonna wait until then and then i will give this a go.
