You all know what I'm talking about...that Godawful screechy noise that a modem makes when it is dialing up a connection.

HOW CAN I TURN IT OFF?

    Please help.
It is not coming through the system ( I have no speakers attached) and it's not the little "beep" speaker on the front I/O header...does the modem have it's own speaker onboard? Is there a way to disable it in Windows, or can I rip it off the card itself?
    This noise is unbearable.

Put a piece of electrical tape on the modem speaker. It won't completely go away but it should help. Worked for me.

Go to Control Panel Then Phone and modem devices, then the modems tab, then properties then modem tab, then the first option is speaker option, switch it to off.

yeah there is a speaker onboard on the modem, i successfully removed mine from my old modem back when i used it, i got my dad to use a soldering iron to remove it. i helped back when i has AOL because AOL overrides the modem settings and i couldnt disable the sound with AOL.

didnt you just get comcast cable?
