Good cooling starts with good airflow design

I suspect most of you here listen to MP3s played from your PC.
If you still want to be able to enjoy music 20 years from now, you'd better shield your ears from unnessesary noise.

To fortify my point of view I copied parts of the reviews from the Newegg site below.
Read them, it makes you smile, guaranteed.

When I read 84 CFM, I have to admit I was a little skeptical. After purchasing this from NEWEGG.COM and installing it, I totally love this fan. It moves enough air to keep my case temp below 25 celcius and cpu (Athlon XP 2600+ Volcano 8) at less than 42 celcius (EVEN after gaming for several hours)!

He has got the same case temperature using the Tornado, as I have using a low noise fan @ reduced voltage.
Design your airflow, and any design is impaired when you leave the case open.

However this is extreemly loud (not an exageration) to the point where it is intolerable.

I've had this fan for I'd say maybe 7 months and holy XXX was it LOUD! My father says he can hear it in his bedroom about when his and my door are both shut. It sound like a dustbuster if you wanted to be a bit more accurate than the people that say vacuum cleaner. Remember, though, I'm talking about JUST one of these.

It gets the job done, but I'm telling you... it is EXTREMELY loud for it's size.

It is NOT as loud as a hairdryer, but still would get annoying if I had it running for a long time.

I really love this fan. I bought three for my workstation PC...... This thing is quite loud! However, the sound is worth it once you see the airflow. A few of my wires were moving to the air blowing in through the intakes! LOL.

Ok, so I'd read the reviews below that this fan sounds like a hair-dryer. I thought those people must be exaggerating. And I would rather have a COOL computer than a Quiet one. So I bought **FOUR** of these things and installed into case. Let me tell you- hair dryer is not the word- try vacuum cleaner now!! LOL. I had to turn the closed-captioning on my tv because I can't hear it anymore.

At 55db you should expect this to be loud at full speed. So you shouldn't mark down for that. However at fullspeed this thing pushes out some serious air. I'm talking about tornado force winds....ok well not really but it moves the air VERY VERY well.
I would however get a fan controller if you get this fan, because at full speed it sounds like a hair dryer.

This puppy pushes some serious air. I blows harder than a small desktop fan that I use. Hairdryer loud is not kidding. It'll cool anything off but unless you are buying it for a server in a datacenter don't bother. It's too loud for home use.

This fan is LOUD. I have never heard a louder fan, yes it is very strong and it cooled my cpu nearly 8 degrees C at full blast, but its just too noisy.

FYI - The fan comes with two different connetions, a 4 pin connection for the power (the red and black wires) and a 3 pin connection for the speed sensor (the yellow wire). There are no power wires connected to the 3 pin connector (it has the yellow wire only). So if you want to control the speed of the fan your controller must use a 4 pin connector (controllers adjust the speed of a fan by moderating the power).

These fans are incredible for cooling! If its cooling you want, then its cooling you get! They are amazing! There is a drawback! They are the loudest fans I've ever heard.

I bought this thing, and I thought, "Hey, it probably isn't as loud as everybody says." Boy was I wrong. After just one hour's use, I took it out of my case. It is too noisy for me.......... THIS FAN IS INSANELY LOUD! BE WARNED!

It really is powerful and will keep your case cool. BUT it IS loud! I saw the "it's loud" reviews here, and thought it couldn't be louder than my Thermaltake7, but it IS by far.
No exagerrations, here are some relative comparisons.
- Much Much Much Louder than my Thermaltake Volcano 7 (plain 7).
- Much Louder than the AC unit in my aparment.
- About as loud as a hair dryer on low/med, held with your arm completely extended.
- A little louder than one of those 3-speed oscillating fans when on med. setting (and pushes about as much air also).
- If you have a datacenter/server room with several (ie +20, desktop-ish servers, racks, and ibm aix type) boxes and the server room has its own AC, think about that kinda noise level.

This thing cools great. Got my 1700+ XP running as a 2600+ at 37 celcius under load (prime95) paired with a swiftech heat sink. but this is the loudest thing i have ever heard in a pc. Even with headphones on while gaming I can still hear this screaming fan.

.... But make sure you dont lie to yourself because 55.2 db is LOUD..... No lie though I would compare the noise to about that of a dishwasher. Think before you buy.

I bought this awhile back hoping to cool down my CPU a little,It Definatly did that,32C Under Load.Got it and Hooked it up and now I have a Vacuum Cleaner On in my room 24/7.I was going deaf,so I went a bought a 92mm Enermax Fan w/ a 92mm to 60mm adapter.Ahh I can hear again....

This is the most quiet fan I ever had. I can not even tell if its running, I have to look at it to make sure. Excellent fan, very quiet and moves alot of air.

Tis' great if your trying cool your CPU..If you trying throwing more than 1 in your case your going to go deaf..I swear my case was cooling my whole house when I started this thing up..I had 3 of em in my case and it sound like a generator..I got a noise pollution ticket from the police..Its about 60dba of noise for one fan..
