muchspl2, im nearly there, in a tutorial i read it said to UNCHECK the 'use CD-i application' box is that correct. and after this i think there are no more questions, and i will let you know of the outcome
no re-read the kvcd guide
burning:
you need nero http://www.nero.com
open nero and choose vcd in the wizard
<---right in the middle
there is a option called "make standard compliant cd" YOU NEED TO UN CHECK IT
repeat, uncheck make standard compliant cd then click new
navigate to your newly created kvcd normally named "video00" in your output directory folder

i would just like to ask muchspl2 but when you use tmpg do you have to set the template option anywhere, because in your guide it doesnt show that for making a vcd ?

no not necessarily
there is a wizard that pops up
just pick vcd or svcd
pal if your in the uk, nstc if your in the us
but of coarse you can use templates and customize everything
hope that makes sense, I'm off to http://www.lavela.com
for some spring break action, later
