I am applying for this job as a translator and they want to know how much I want to earn per 1000 words translated.

Does anyone have an idea what would be reasonable?

if that doesn't help, take your birthday divide its date by 3 and take away 5, state this number in your application

It all depends on the text. Something between 2-3 hours I suppose. But I just don't know what would be a reasonable wage for a translator

There are standard prices per word.

also depends on your proffesionality, experience etc

my mom used to do it but itll be totally out of date now
    Google?

Maybe look at job offers\wanteds translators - prices could be there.

(but i from what ive seen of your writing-you should ask 1 dllr per Letter)

As a general indication, most translators translate in the region of 2000 words a day.

Hereis a site with prices for English to German translation.

Where the reader is unknown or the document is for general public use it is often only considered ethical to translate into your native language, unless your skills the other way are exceptional.

I think it is ok if the person asking for the translation understands the potential idiomatic problems, but possibly this should be reflected in a lower price.

Yah, I found that website too lynx. Apparently $90 for 1000 words isn't uncommon. But I don't have any real experience so I just put £40 / 1000 words.

EDIT: Can someone please kick my ass and tell me to call Mrs Taylor. I'm having a an attack of low self esteem
