I have been doing a bit of reading about Bittorent and looked through a few articles claiming that at about 2 thousand users bitorrents overhead start to overtake its throughput.

Has anyone had a very well seeded and popular file that you got terrible speeds on because the tracker could not keep up with maintaining the sheer volume of users?

mabe something of a mix betweenLoci which is a load balancing protocol with much high preformance might be we way to go with popular torrents.

(Afaik) I don't think thats true, new episodes of some series i download generally have > 8000 users and great speeds, if the 2000 thing were true then that would be an awful lot of overhead bandwidth. Maybe the 2000 limit was the original protocol? I'm sure its changed quite a bit.
If you're really curious you could try asking at shadow's forum http://forums.degreez.net/

I've noticed with >60 total users on 1 torrent that overheads run about 5-25% of total.

Maybe a stupid question but what does overhead bandwidth mean?

I think it may depend on the tracker. Think Demonoid, and how large that is

I think he means per torrent not per tracker. Demonoid doesn't have a lot of torrents over 2000 seeds, could probably count them on one hand.
Gee, Brain what do you want to do tonight?

Seeders don't produce a lot of overhead, but leechers do. They're constantly having to tell everyone which new pieces they got (overhead that goes to everyone in their swarm) as well as the overhead involved in requesting pieces from other peers.
