Slackware? Wait till you get your hands on a nice tasty copy of Gentoo...
I know there's a thread in here about music authoring software, but I can't find it.

Well, im pretty happy with Slackware atm, enuff of a challence for me now.
I got 3 PC's here, 2 of them are pretty lazy, like 750MHz-AMD and 400MHz-Pentium.
The pentium is my movie box, connected to my TV via some old ATI card,
when i play rental DVD's i get a bit jumpy picture, im guessing the hardware aint just capable
of playing DVD video. I watch a lot of avi's through TV with it but DVD's could be fine too.
So, im dreaming of about learning enuff of Linux to install it on the Movie box
and hopefully set it up so it could possibly play DVD's also.
I got XP innit now, takes sooo much resources.
Alsamixer didnt help Shn, thanks for the tip.
Entered alsamixer on the command prompt and got:
function snd_ct1_open failed for default: No such device.
Im guessing i dont have anykinda support for sound installed.
Well, off to hunt down some answers off the net,
gotta learn about adding Modules etc...
I've found lotsa cool places to read about, i just get stuck reading, not
configuring... lol
Any tips here regarding my sound issue would be really nice.

When I did run slackware I noticed a problem with the way users were set up most of time it does not add you to the audio group and also making it even harder to configure your sound device as a normal user. Alsa's site has some pretty helpful documentation if you have not been there already.

Do you get any sound as root?
Check the persmissions of:
/dev/mixer
/dev/dsp
/dev/midi
/dev/sequencer
(They should be the same as before but check incase)
Try unmuting the mixer?
alsamixer
then hit "M" on all the devices and rase the volume levels.
