Thread: How To Change Swap File Drive

  1. #1
Does anyone know how to change your swap file drive on windows xp home? I can't find the damn option anywhere! The drive I think it's using is so low on space, it'd really help to change it. Thanks.

You are better off increasing your system memory.

I've tried several different settings, and in my experience I think you're best off letting XP manage your Virtual Memory. If you have more than one hard drive, it will automatically use both as needed.

I mate where 4play said.Imo mate, its best to set the vmem same size so it dosnt expand n defrag.Or better on a partition on its own,for best performance.

"You might think that setting the initial size and the maximum size to the same (relatively large—say, two or three times RAM) value would improve performance since it would mean that Windows XP would never resize the page file. In practice, however, it has been shown that this trick does not improve performance, and in some cases can actually decrease performance."

You need to experiment to determine what works best for you.
