I might be building a new computer for my friend...they have UP TO $2,200 to spend on it. Hellll yeah haha

I was wondering if it was worth getting the Athlon 64 FX-51, or 53 if its out...over the Athlon 64 3400? Its alot more exspensive.

Also what Is a good 64bit Mobo? How long do you think I should wait for a good chipset?

Should I even go 64bit at this stage or just keep it really cheap for him and his family?

How long should I wait, like when will BTX, new graphics cards, and PCI Express be out? And should I wait for all of that for just a family computer?

I think you should go the 64bit route and dont wait for all of the new stuff like btx and pcix to come out because that will be in a long time and probably really expensive. plus i doubt they will need to upgrade this computer if it is a family computer, they can just buy all new parts in like 3 years...

get a motherboard with the nforce 3 chipset. gigabyte, abit or asus are good companies so narrow it down with those.

to save them money though, u dont have to buy overclocking ram with great timings, but atleast get 1gb as i heard the 64bit windows xp needs 1gb, but that may be wrong. and also u dont need to buy them a 9800xt which u were probably planning on doing, i would just get them a 9200, maybe 9500 or 9600 at most.

You think im stupid? 9800XT? hell no haha i was thinking 9600Pro cuz he said he plays some games. There cheap so it dont matter really. I will go ahead and try to price one for them..and I guess i wont wait for the new stuff

Yall think the Athlon 64 3400 with 1MB cache is worth the $415? The cache should be good..you think he would really like that? Or go with a cheaper one? like the 3000

    Good mobo? Gigabyte

What is this Ive heard that you cannot install a O/S with a sata drive or something?

is that ram 'registered'? madcat said it has to be registered ram for a 64bit computer.

    it says:

    Registered/Unbuffered: Unbuffered
Is the slash (&#092 there too seperate unbuffered and registered because they are opposite or is it there to show that they mean the same thing?

PSU's by ultra are good and not too expensive either. enermax is great i love mine, but they are a lot more than the ultras.
