Whats The Difference Between....

Now days DVD discs come in many flavours.

Whats the difference between: DVD-RAM , DVD-R , DVD+R

I have a DVD writer in my PC which says DVD R/RW

I tried to DVD-RAM and DVD+R discs to write something to them using my DVD writer but it did not work. The only discs I can use is DVD-R.

Could u explain the differences
