I doubt it's the soundcard.
You probably don't have enough power to run two hard drives, removing the soundcard merely frees up some power.

Still. Maybe your new drive requires more power than the old one. Try removing other non-essential cards from your system, such as an internal modem, or unplug any fans (leave the case open).
