Red, the suggestions that the guys gave you should keep you safe
sometimes these alerts, or warnings are nothing more than
popup adds.
a really good blocker should be added to your "defences"
a good example is a free one that you can get from google's toolbar

Disabling the Windows XP messenger service described above is a must.

A good firewall is a gimmee.

Running Adaware and Spybot (weekly)with the most current updates is wise.

While running "Hijack This" will help identify problems after the fact, I recommend Browser Hijacker Blaster. It will identify hijack attempts as they occur and it's free. (you can get it here)
