Art Lovers ........

Have a 10 hour GCSE art exam on wed/thur and am doing some work as my book is prctically and not what the examinar will want to see.

Anyway, as part of the project .. I need to be influenced by artists ....

My final peice is quite simle really .. just an 8mile style home (sub-urban detroit washed out, trailer parks etc) with a large window with a view of a beach. The idea being that although life is hard at present, people there look forward to paradise or a better life, and it keeps then going. Any crap to get me a decent grade ...

So what I ask is:

Could people here give me links to paintings/artists which have done peices of art work with with either beaches or poor, deserted, motor city style towns ....

I lose a lot of interest once "modern art" comes about, so representations of modern day Detriot is a little beyond my scope. A few of the Surrealists hold a special place in my heart, but they didn't tend to the realism.

but i think you should always contrast the heavy with light

ie:poor vs rich - - dirt\prostitution\crackwores vs glossy fashion, watches yachts, maldives ads, etc \ low budget great movies vs Hibudget Crap movies

happi some pop art - barbie, jeff koons, fluffy, happyhappy vacation images will do,
maybe aslo write some "poetry\thoughts\rap\lingo whatever you call it in your presentation

they prob just want you to
1.proove that u learnt something Academic in your time at school-hence reference to OLD (MagicNakor)and NEW... Art, Philosoph, ideas.
2.The art is in your concept - not necessarily what you make - although

in one way i agree with Magico - it should always work Visually (but that is a Majorlly Conservative Traditional View)

The problem with giger is that he is and has always been so redundant , be it in his "depressing" imagery, which I and many believe to be sheer prostitution on his part, to his out and out sell-out "Alien" series of crap. Talk about a whore, this giy knows from "roll me over and use me".
Let's not forget how startlingly unique we once thought when we saw the "Brain Salad Surgery" LP cover for the first time. Unfortunately it was his best piece...like a narcotic Giger always makes us want to chase that first hit...we never achieve the first "blast" we once took, and Giger is as elusive as they are.
