For me it has to be Zelda - just for pure playability! (which reminds me - I still have half a heart to find in the snes game... emulator here I come)

american and japanese RPGs are almost two completely different genres. they shouldn't even have to compete in the same category.

american = do whatever you want, go wherever you want, kill whatever you want.

japanese = here's the pre-scripted storyline. you can follow it or you can press the "power off" button.

I tried Diablo (PC) but I just couldn't get into it. It just seemed like a bunch of repetitive pointing and clicking to me. I'm not sure why we're comparing it to Zelda, as they're two totally different games, but for me it was a no brainer. I loved the original NES version and the SNES version, but the N64 version (Ocarina of Time) is one of my favorite games of all time. I also enjoyed Majora's Mask but it got too hard so I never finished it. I don't have a Gamecube yet, but when I do I guarantee Wind Waker will be one of the first games I buy.

Thats all it is. Hack and slash, hack and slash...

Enjoyable, but still...

For a real RPG, play Morrowind Theres so many mods out you can never complete it (well you'll never complete it anyway since theres around 500 hours of gameplay in the original, then more in the 2 EPs).

Zelda - Ocarina of Time is most definitly one of the greatest fucking games EVER made. I've probably beaten it more than 7 times, and its still just as fun as the 1st time, its just amazing. Diablo 2 is still a great game, but it doesnt have anything on Zelda - Ocarina of Time.
