Didn't me and balamm get it across to you that 1&1 is garbage?

I only use 1 and 1 for the site space and the limited sql now. I think we'll be moving on to a more professional host pretty soon. Service is almost nonexistant at 1 and 1.
The GD is pretty useless to me. It's still 1.6.2 and I suspect their apache is a bit out of date as well.

Yeah, we got the "professional preview package".
Real professional, 1 shared/shared database on a shared/shared server, running a home made OS of some kind with 2 to 4 year old software.
( but on their managed server plans, they install Red Hat.. with all the latest goodies??? )
And if you actually do get a response from the service people, it comes with the subject line:
re: "support: "newby", non technical."
or something very similar to that. I took great offence to it at the time I remember.
Oh, yeah, here's another 1and1 gem... You can't view the CPanel with anything lower than IE6 or Opera compatible browsers. The screen becomes two sizes too wide and some buttons are either not there or they don't function.
I guess sometimes you do only get what you pay for (unless you're a successful theif )Originally posted by MUSCLEMAN

1&1 has four or five shebang paths to Perl... none of which work. And they're using an ancient version of RedHat with some weird Apache / TUX hybrid which prevents me from using RewriteCond correctly in .htaccess.Originally posted by balamm
It aint even related to redhat. It's "infong" that they bastardized for themselfs.
I was just gonna ask you if you had any idea what syntax to use with their apache htaccess cause I can't get it to limit access, only deny access.
Looks like you're having just as much trouble with it.
I just checked and they're running apache 1.3.9 !!!!
Gotta look through the archives and museums a bit to figure that one out I guess.Originally posted by haxor41789
And that .htaccess's a bitch... it took me about a month to implement image hotlink blocking before I got it right.
And then I removed it.
BTW, that .htaccess syntax I used would be:
Hope that helps.Code:RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?yourhost.com/.*$ [NC] RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg|png|bmp|jpeg|rle|dib|tga|pcx|tif|tiff|jpe|jpa|fpx|psd)$ http://www.yourhost.com/image/you/want/to/appear/when/hotlinking/is.blocked [R,L]Originally posted by balamm
it's still giving full access as far as I can tell. I've tried it from a few sample links and it gets it no problem.
I did a search of their installed modules and I don't think they even have the mod rewrite installed from what I could see.
It's givin me headaches, I'll just stick to random links I guess...<!--QuoteBegin-balamm@Originally posted by haxor41789
I told you, .htaccess breaks almost randomly.
I just tried to get my monthly stats....
They've deleted them again
I sent a message reaming them out but I suspect it'll be good for a laugh among the moron support crew they have running things.
I also contacted a few people about hosting us for free without all the bullshit and games and the offers are coming in.
We have 17 or more pages of expanded stats on Google now so it's a good selling feature
I have about 30 new image scripts to get up and running so I can't d**k around with 1 and 1 anymore. Time to make some cash$$$ We'll keep them for the download bandwidth maybe but it's not much good for anything else now.
1&1's MIME types are messed up too. I was trying to use a PHP image on KL Board (and they block .php extensions), so I started playing with AddType...
...and application/x-httpd-php behaves the same as application/octet-stream and application/x-force-download!
Turns out it's some fucked up x-mapp-php4.
Figures.
You get the idea.
