[SIZE=1]AMD 4200 X2 @ 2.65Ghz, ASRock 939-VSTA
1.75GB PC3200, 2 X 160GB Seagate w/ 8MB Buffer
HIS Radeon X800 Pro, Antec Super Lanboy Aluminum
he should definately wait until ati's cards are out! what if the new nvidia cards turn out to be not so spectacular then ATI's come out, which are $5-$10 cheaper because their is no bridge and they tun out to be super fast getting double teh benchmark scores and hes stuck with the nvidia, that would suckOriginally posted by atiVidia@3 April 2004 - 18:49

The FX series has a 1600 Mhz FSBOriginally posted by adamp2p@3 April 2004 - 05:54
I STILL do not see the point in spending all that money on the FX-53. Given that it is an excellent processor and it has 64 bit capabilities, I still think that the Intel 2.8 C
with PC 3500-4000 Ram and a P4P800 or P4PC800 or Abit Max 3 would be a better deal (and more fun to play with) than the FX-53. And the performance of an overclocked 2.8 C @ 3.5 or 3.6 GHz will perform similarly or better than a FX-53 in most cases. Keep in mind we are talking about over 1 GHz front side bus.
Then your friend can save his or her money and get a better case or cooling solutions (ie water). I personally think this is the WORST time to make such an upgrade. I myself have been tempted to upgrade, but what holds me back is the fact that right around the corner are some HUGE technological advances. I know I would feel stupid in less than 3 or 4 months for wasting money now, when my current system is great for the price I purchased it for, and when I purchased it (last June). That means that if I upgrade again this June or July, every month I spent less than $160 per month on my system, and it will still have value when I do retire it, and my monitor should be good for at least another year, which was 1/4 of the value of my current system.

Something more fun would be to get an FX 51, but buy a monster cooling setup (Vapochill!!!and overclock it to act like a hypothetical FX 61
All you need to know is:
Athlon 64 series chip
Motherboard:PC3200 or higher RAM (REGISTERED ECC RAM ONLY FOR FX PCs!!!!!!!!
- VIA KT800 Chipset for all out performance
- NForce Pro 150 Chipset for better features
Some nice case.
Some nice PSU.
The graphics card you said
Audigy 2 ZS and 7.1s
DVD writer
A RAID array of WD Raptors, or Maxtor/Seagate equivelants.
(could go for RAID SCSI Maxtor Atlas 10k RPM [146gb each]) if you really want to splash out.
EDIT: A better configuration for hard drives would be:
Two super fast SATA or SCSI hard drives (you'll probably need a PCI SCSI controller for SCSI drives, pretty cheap though) [on this would be the Windows installation, games installs etc, and the swap file]
Two great hulking 250GB 7200RPM IDE hard drives (on this you would put My Documents etc, and for mass storage purposes)
