I found myself wondering about this while scarfing some old Geo. Carlin for the archives; I've sure got my faves-Carlin, Pryor, Williams, etc., all the Gods of comedy, but Jake Johannsen makes me lose it, I think EDDIE IZZARD is gonna attain "Deity" status soon, he may turn out to be the best of all.....

He already is the best comedian around.
Billy Connolly comes close, but his humour's a bit less classy, ie. a bit purile in places.

    Lamsey-
You're right on about Connelly- I like Eddie Izzard, though, because he's obviously got a background steeped in history, and in any case is intelligent almost beyond description. And terribly QUICK-I've watched 'em all, going back to Lenny Bruce, Mort Sahl, etc., and I've never seen anybody like Eddie, not even close. Neither can I remember ANYBODY going an hour and 45 minutes without repeating or even taking a breath. I believe the term "tour de force" should be re-defined.

I prefer Billy Connelly, probably cause we have the same sense of humor. But I also like Jack Dee just dry sarcasm.

I went to see Peter Kay in Blackpool a few weeks ago but up until then I couldn't stand him (I only went because my mates bf was ill so I had his ticket). Now I think he's one of the most funniest comedians around. I think you'd have to see him live to appreciate his humour more.

Are we talking only about Brits because I said Eddie Izzard was a genius?
