is it illigel to change your modem settings. and if u do would all these programs you have to install on you pc ie boot pq .exe and tftpd32g.zip Hack into the sevice provider server etc.. Coz if it does then it would not b a good ideai to do it. also the comany did not say to me that i could or couldnot alter the modem settings.

i uncapped my motorola surfboard for a whole weekend. the only change that happened was my upload went from 15k upload, to 30k upload. my download is maxed out by the ISP. pretty stupid really, unless you want to share things a little faster oh, and the address to your surfboard through IE is http://192.168.100.1

i think that is the adress to all cable modems...and all routers are 192.168.0.1? i could bwe wrong though, could be dead wrong lol.
192 is a network ip so i was told

ya it is. but to access the config of your router you usually just type 192.168.0.1 into your browser and the config comes up. and for cable modems you type 192.168.100.1

Most cable modems have now been "fixed" so you can't uncap them. They do this by downloading a firmware patch. They can automatically check to see if your speed matches what it is supposed to be. If it doesn't they will probably download the patch again, and they may send you a bill for the extra bandwidth you've used.

yes it is illegal, as weve said in other posts.

yes you can set it back to default, to do that you just reset it, or unplug it for a few seconds then plug it in.
