Thread: Is Divx A Safe Program?

  1. #1
I'm just wondering if DivX player is a safe program to use, as I've heard it contains the GAIN (Gator) spyware? If that's true, then I don't want to install it on my computer.

Is it possible to get a Lite version instead?

    Thanx

BS Player is a better alternative. Some versions of DivX player contain adware.
On a given day or given circumstance, you think you have a limit.
And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit and you think "Ok, this is the limit".
As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further.
With your mind power, your determination, your instinct and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

The Free installer of the Pro version is bundled with GAIN.
The standard DivX version is spyware free.

The K-Lite Codec Pack contains the Pro version AND is spyware free

Look at the filename for this download from DivX.com:

Can you get any more blatant about the content than that? Incuding "adware" in the filename...

But credit where credits due, They didn't try to disguise it or deny the use of it like other programs do.
I wasn't going to buy it in the first place, so me downloading it for free isn't losing them any money.

    That's so funny !!

Thing is, I know several people who have Divx player installed on their computer, but they are probably completely unaware of what's in it. (Several of my classmates and I have even seen some lecturers who have it on their computers, because I've seen the icon on their desktops).

The DivX player itself doesn't contain ad/spyware. The nasty stuff is bundled with the DivX installer.
