2 Hardrives Makeing A Somewhat Highpitch Noise

Sounds like an interference wave plus the normal system noise from the 32db cpu fan and stuff which isnt too bad.

The hardrives are right on top of each other in they're slots. If i get a cdrive holdster for one of the hardrives and spread out the two, would that get rid of the noise?

maybe i can get a sound clip hosted on a website so yall can hear exactly what it sounds like.

btw, the hardrive brands:

Seagate 7200 rpm 80gb
Maxtor 7200 rpm 60gb

i unplugged the 60gb and the noise is gone.
I need a newer.. quiter.. hd to store my mp3s, videos, etc on. I temporarly dont have them right now, but the noise was nearly cut in half.

I'd recommend a Seagate HDD.
In my ( somewhat limited ) experience they are almost dead silent.

When you de-couple the drives from the case, so the drive's vibrartions can't reach the case any more, you'll notice that the noise goes down considerably.

There are several ways to do this.
Here is 1 way, suspending a 3.5" drive in a 5.25" cage.

wow that idea sure beats mounting it using mounting brackets lol...

This guy wraped his HD with bubble wrap and said it helped reduce like 80% of the noise! only problem is heat though.. and the plastic might melt eventually.

wonder if i should try this, but just not wrapping the whole thing up. Maybe have little peiece of bubble wrap on the bottom and sides to hold it in one of the 5.25" cages?

btw, i have alot of little air holes on my case side walls and i notice other cases dont have any on the walls. Cant i just cover those up??
I bought some dynamat (enough to get a solid layer over the entire inside of the 2 case walls, the front interier (no air holes in the front anyways), top, bottom. Maybe even a little on the back. I'm also gonna put PaxMate sound dampener on top of the dynamat.
hopefully this will bring the noise top the back, because it sounds like it's in the front right now...

Imo plastic bubblewrap is a bad idea. I'd not take a chance on melting.

But FD's idea looks cool. I'd think high test or braided fishing line would work.

If your HDD gets that hot then the bubble wrap is the least of your worries....
