Ideas To Increase Traffic/activity

Hey all. Not that we really need it, but I am looking for ways to increase the # of visitors, and traffic to this site so that the activity can pick up a bit.

Please list your ideas for promoting, places to advertise, etc.
Also if you have a website feel free to link to us :-)

I know, the main forum (here) has nothing in it

Dunno, Maybe have a points program like ultimate jester suggested?

For the guests perhaps try only showing them the guest forum (and not the rest of the board - even if the can't post in it) or restrict access for guests completely and force users to log in when the view the forum.

those totals have always confused me

like you can look in the online list, and see a member's name who is viewing a topic from an hour ago or more when you look at the time

^40mins ago, so they have'nt been 'active' in the last 15mins, so maybe the 'guest' in the totals are members coming and going, logging in and stuff, meaning they'll be in the guest and member totals, but that means the 15mins thing is wrong

Given the average downloader is a cantankerous, inquisitive sod (at best and I speak for myself), go onto other filesharing sites and tell them how awful this one is!

They'll be here in droves to check it out.

Also do as others do and only allow guest access at top level - show 'em what's being discussed but not the actual posts.

Natural curiosity will do the rest.

Change the front page at https://filesharingtalk.com/ , get rid of the borders and open it up to more like http://www.slyck.com/index.php

It doesnt have to look like slyck and that would be blantent copying anyway, but it should have a more creative looking page more bolder colors with guides with alot more usage of the page, basiclly more welcoming than the current plain looking page....
