hi, when i open my WMP, if i click on file then 'open', a box appears, at the bottom of this box it says 'file name' when i click on this, a drop down box appears with a list of things which i have listened to or viewed even though those files may no longer exist on my h/d. how do i erase all that stuff and even more importantly how do i make sure it isnt stored there in the first place. thank you

If you have windows xp you can use the remove history option in internet explorer, and you could also use Evidence Eliminator

i dont really use it anymore but i think the options you're looking for are at 'tools' > 'options' > 'privacy'
you should be able to clear history and set it up so it does'nt save anymore info, uncheck boxes to retrieve media info etc

Ah...been watching pornos eh? Well, I've had my fair experience and I use Window Washer to clear all my tracks, it clears my media players as well as lots of others.
