Thread: Backup...

  1. #1
is it possible to make an "image" (that i keep hearing of) of your hard drive on a cd in case it gets wiped out or something? is an image what i think it is or would the disc have to be the same size as the hard drive itself? how would u guys back up your hard drives without any $500 portable 30Gb hard drive.
    Possible??

It depends on how large ur hard drive is at the moment...

If u have say a 80gb hard drive and only wanna back up say 20gb then make a different partion and store all the stuff u want on the that partition.

If u make that partition read only. Then everything that u have on there will not be able to get altered, deleted or "lost".

U can make image files of ur hard drive with sum norton utilities... They have a program called Norton Ghost which takes a "picture" of ur hard disk and saves it as a norton image file. This could also be stored on another Read Only partition.

You could also get another internal harddrive (for less money). That way if the main drive competely fails you would have all you data on the other drive also. Look into RAID systems if you really need to have an always up to date backup.

Yeah, it really makes sense to throw all you files onto a D drive and install proggies on the C drive. HDD are so cheap these days, it saves time and effort just to keep music, pics, game backup data, movies, and install files on a secondary HDD.
