Connection Probs

hello fellow users
just a simple question i have just purchased a laptop and want to connect to my main comp to transfer files ie movies music etc to the laptop can i use a firewire connection to do this and if so how i presumed that you could just plug and play ie plug the laptop via the firewire cable and transfer files like you can with a camera or camcorder
dont know if i am just being stupid but is this poss
if this is not poss what do i need to transfer files from one to the other
any help would be much appreciated cheers nidge

You need to set up a network.
I heard this is real easy to do with windows xp but I have tried unsucesfully several times
