I'm thinking about getting into the world of emulation ON the Xbox. I've seen screenshots and man I want to try it all.

Now, I know I'll need to mod my Xbox. But then what? Where would I get emulators and how work it all work? I'm assuming the Xbox reads a certain extention (such as how the PC reads .exe's) that can be downloaded and burnt on a regular CD-R, along with roms? But then how would you save your games? You can't use the Xbox to add the save files onto the CD-R.

I've found an emulator called XBoyAdvance, but I can't find a download for it anywhere.

i'm no expert on the matter. just bought one myself (despite my opinion that the game selection is pretty weak) with the intention of modding it to run xbox media player and emulators.

but my understanding is that when you modify the xbox you'll choose an unofficial replacement "dashboard" (the control panel you see when you start the console without a game/movie inserted) and that will allow you to install programs (via CD-Rom or FTP/ethernet) onto the hard drive and run them.

xbox programs are similar to windows programs, but indeed they must be created especially for the xbox and they use the extension "xbe" (xbox executable). zophar's domain is a pretty decent emulator link site. no xboyadvance, though... but you can prolly dig that up easily on eDonkey/Overnet.

as for game saves, the more well-developed emulators should be able to store saves on the xbox hard drive, or even on memory cards.

3RA1N1AC pretty much covered it. If you are looking for Xbox software(emulators/media players) you can find them, amongst other stuff at #xbins on EFnet(mIRC).
