What firewall are you running? To be honest sounds like you just need to config the computer with the problem . Disable floppy seek on start up . Read a little its norton auto protect : quote :
I found that the Norton Auto Protect Service is by default in automatic start mode under services and this is the one accessing the floppy drive while XP starts

Hunter did you get it fixed yet? Reason I'm asking , A friend has the same problem, won,t load personal settings and the floppy drive is going crazy. I acually put a disk in to shut it up.
My fix was she had two anti virus installed ,norton and wincleaner . I deleted wincleaner and problem solved. Hope this helps.
