yeah i've been told adobe after effects and premiere are the easiest/best way to go, not to mention the highest quality. I have after effects, but I havent gotten around to opening the .tar .

Particle Illusion is what you should go for, not really so much for video editing but it has some pretty sweet special effects, give it a try it won't dissapoint you.

The Sony one your thinking of is Vegas Video..

I use Premiere Pro for editing, and AE for compositing, color changing, titles,etc

I've used particle illusion, it's ok..Personally, you can get a lot better and original effects with 3ds max or another 3d program.
