... didn't work Rossco mate ... even tried simply swapping it with the current hard drive. Jumpers set correctly, making it the only master hdd but still goes undetected. Any other suggestions?

You didn't tell us that.
Probably something wrong with the drive...sure it is getting power? can you hear it spinning up when teh computer is started?

The motherboard I have is this: http://www.ecsusa.com/products/k7s5a_pro.html
Have no other hardware problems so I doubt its the fault of the motherboard ... I'll have a check for hearing if anything moves within the hard drive. Thing is though, I'm sure only yesterday I had it come up as slave .... but have no idea what jumper settings, which port the cable entered and have tried all I can think of to no avail. =(
Being only 20gb its no real loss, but when you hear that my current master is only 40gb and 5400rpm ... (compared to the 7200rpm) of the 'new' maxtor .. it would be a nice addition.

I wasn't asking about the motherboard to put fault in it. I was asking to see how resent the board was to see if it even had automatic drive detection. Some older boards were completely manual settings only. Yours has automatic detection so that's not the case.
You still didn't answer about if the power cable is connected to the drive.
