i took out this card and replaced it with my old 9600. the artifacts went away. so i've decided that this is caused by the 9800 and i'm rmaing it rite now. thanks for all ur help!

You never told us if the fan on the heatsink was moving, but i guess it doesn't matter anymore if you are RMAing anyway.

the fan works fine. the temps are normal too. 30ish C.
wat i might do is sell my 9800 pro and get this card with the crazy hs. is this generally better (quality wise) than a sapphire?

Ya, usually they are higher quality, run at higher clock speeds than ati made or saphire or a few others.
So ya it is better than the saphire.
I have a HIS card and I love it, it looks way nicer then the regular ATI's
Card is rock solid, havn't had many problems with it at all, once I switched to the Omega Drivers of coarse
HIS usually has a lot better cooling devices on it then ATI's or saphires too

ok. they're comin up again. and now with my 9600, which never hand any problems before. same exact problems as my 9800. this is so fucked up!
i'm back at stock settings, temps are normal, and all this shit is happening. !!! wtf!!!

no. i didn't. i was gonna, but i kept it for a backup in case something like this happens. guess my instincts were correct, something bad was gonna happen.
i'm gonna take a look. is there a definite reason y these things happen? i'm not ocing anything
