Get Hacked From Msn Messenger?

I am afraid my friends can access my hard drive through msn messenger, is it possible in any way? anyone has information? thanks

Messenger is a bit of a hacker's paradise.

Always was.

There are loads of worms and exploits.

Just google for MSN messenger exploits or something and i guarantee you, you'll find lots of info.

but how? will I be hacked if they just send me pictures? or I send them picture? or they can use some tools to acess my files while I am online even my computer is not infected by virus?

Best thing you can do, is update it as often as you can, scan for viruses and so forth.

And make sure you haven't set any folders as shared or something.

More than that I can't tell you, as I don't use it myself.

The short answer is no. Your friends cannot access your HD through MSN messenger. They can, however, use it to gain information about your PC, such as your IP address, or use other tools to compromise your machine, for example they could send you a trojan/keylogger through MSN - but equally they could just as easily send those things by email. You are safe just sending pictures back and forth.

The exploits SnnY mentions have all been closed now, as soon as a hack becomes publically known MS generally fix it

Indeed, but you need to keep updating, and there's always some ingenous bastard, as it is with everything, everywhere, who comes up with new ways to mess it up. So you can't stop upgrading either.

If you can't trust your friends btw, the solution might be to get new ones.
