the cable was fine, i fixed the problem and i'm on the drive now. for some reason when i tried the drive on CableSelect it worked perfect
cable select sends a signal to the motherboard through a different wire than master would. Probably the master wire is screwed up or something.
but if it is working then just leave it.
same cable, at first i had the jumper on master and plugged into the master part of the ide cable and then i just changed the jumper and it worked fine.
