I was thinking of getting a DVD RW and was wondering what is the best one?

I got a Sony DRU-510A that has given me no problems. Its 4x but I would never really burn at 8x anyways. You can find it for around $70 if you look in the right spots.

you can get a nec 2500 ~50 bucks are just get the better 2510a for ~70 bucks

Gotta agree with these two on this.

I got the NEC 2500 and with firmwarehave unlocked the dual burning and a few other nice features. Which is nice.

45 quid as well, not to be sniffed at.

Not sure if you are asking what is dual-layer, or what is the hack, so here goes.

Dual Layer.
Nothing to do with hens. Commercially pressed DVDs can have two layers, but up to now DVDR have only had single layer. Technology has been developed to allow two layer DVDR as well.

Dual Layer hack.
NEC2500 drives are (almost) identical to NEC2510 drives. The difference is in the firmware, the 2500 only burns single layer, the 2510 can burn dual layer. The firmware hack allows the 2510 firmware to be burnt onto the 2500.

The result is that the 2500 can be made to burn dual layer, so from that point of view it is better than the Sony (and I&#39;ve got a Sony DRU-500A and it is a POS).
