After uninstalling stylexp, I no longer get the blue logon screen anymore. I am still prompted to enter my password at a black screen and everything boots ok, but I'd like it to be the way it was.

install it again, apply the default logon screen, then uninstall.
that's easiest way i know, u could do it manually but i can't remember how irght now.
