Ok, Im gonna buy the Philips DVP642,
    that plays DivX movies,

    but Im wondering:

you know how we have to keep
updating the DivX Codecs in our
    PCs,
well, what if with time ( few months or weeks),
the downloaded DivX are no longer compatible?

Is the DivX player equiped to be UpDated
    or what?

    If you can tell me,
    thank you!...

I've never tried it, so I don't know the exact details, but I believe you burn the firmware onto a cd, then put the cd into the player. It recognises the firmware disk (don't know the details of how) and updates it's firmware.

I don't know if this is possible with the DVP642, and I'm not likely to find out since it is an "American model" according to Philips (so why has it just been released in Dubai?). However, I seem to recall seeing something about someone screwing up his machine by turning it off in the middle of a firmware update, and I'm pretty sure that was on the DVP642.

All you've got to worry about now is how to get the firmware and what format the disk should be.
    .

or just re-encode the film to an older version of divx if u are too scared to update the firmware.

the firmware update is very simple just keep your fingers crossed that you don't get a power outage..the file comes with a text file with instructions.Have a look here divx forums hardware for more info on the 642. check out pg 2 there a long thread on the 642.
