If I were to upgrade my computer's RAM, do I just stick the RAM in, and it will work?

Do I have to do any configuring in the BIOS or Windows?

Ram is a kind of plug and play situation. just make sure it's seated fully. It takes more pressure then you would think is needed.
And if possible, get same brand/speed that you have before if your adding new stuff to work dual channel with your old.

Make sure you get the right type. If you got a newer pc, you'll have to get a 184-pin stick. Usually PC2100, 2700, 3200, 4000 and higher for the OC'ers. 2100 being the slowest you'd wanna get and so on.

    Caution!!
    DO NOT GET SLOW RAM!
try to match it with your cpu fsb for best performance so it will run 1:1 ratio
unless of coarse your overclocking, in which case get as fast as possible. DO NOT cheap out on ram!

Ever seen a new computer with 256 of PC100 SDRAM? It is really very sad to see.

PC100 is 168-pin. Meaning its an old motherboard, cpu and so on.

    Also known as SDRAM
As opposed to the newer faster DDR SDRAM

Do you need more than 1GB of RAM?

I know Mushkin makes 1GB sticks...I assume that other manufacturers do also.
