When I try to open a .rar file I have the error message:

'........,the archive is either in unknown format or damaged'

appears and I can't open it. Is there any way to attempt to fix the file or retrieve any of the contents?

    ta for any help

Navigate to the file with winrar itself, right click the damaged .rar and click repair archive.

This function is where winrar totally owns winzip. Works really well in almost all cases.

It works everytime so you can retrieve at least some data.

Especially good if you've been downloading multiple files within the .rar - like mp3s - and your download breaks.

It works good for small files or with many files. With large files I never had many luck with it.

People should add recovey records to all archives that they make.

isnt there a thing called "advanced zip repair v1.6" that came with winrar, could that be used?or does it just do the same as going to tools and repair archive?
