Thread: Bittorrent Error

  1. #1
well heres the story on the filesoup bittorrent forums, i'm trying to download the pink floyd complete collection but the following happens

I click the attachment ([torrent files are not allowed] link)
bittorrent opens and asks me where to save the file
I tell it to save it to a folder i made
    bittorrent says "starting up"
then an error flashes that says "trouble accessing files- [ermo24] to many open files: D:/pink floyd...ect"
then the status goes to failed

it works for other people that try to download it, so I think its my bittorent..
I've already tryed: saving the attachment to my hard drive and opening it from there, and i've also tryed reinstalling bittorent

if any one could help that would be awesome

How many uploads do you have going? If you have too many sometimes you will get an error like.

I've only gotten an error like that with azureus though.

    question:

what is /proc/sys/fs/file-max have to do with this problem?

hmmmm, no i dont have multiple downloads going, and how do I change the OS limit? because the files i'm trying to download is like 8 Gigs, so that could be the problem (BTW: the harddrive i'm trying to save it on is 38 gigs so that shouldnt be a problem)

i have no idead what that guy posted or what he was thinking when he did. Some people search google for problems and don't even pay attention to what their posting.

if you find a windows box that uses /proc/sys then you let me know

The point (which to me is clear) is that your Bt client wants to keep open more files (possibly .rar's ) than your OS will allow open at once
How you modify the num files your OS will allow open I don't know

What file system do you have NTFS or FAT32? If FAT32 you cant d/l any files over 4+ gigs. So usually either have to pop in a new hdd and format into NTFS or format your current one. No other solution. Sorry
