I have been looking at some S-ATA hard drives from Samsung, Maxtor and Western Digital.

I know i can connected them to my mobo.

Do they have a faster data transfer that IDE. I am looking at some 80GB / 120GB drives just some for backups and msuic and video storage incase anything happeneds to my current drive.

A regular SATA will be slightly better than a standard PATA drive, but you don't see a major improvement till you step up to a WD Raptor with the 10k spindle speed.
Those things are fast.

The biggest advantage of a regular SATA drive (IMO) is the nice thin cables.

Sounds like you have bugs in your system.

That sucks.

But whatever u do don't try to repair it yourslef. It will require u taking apart the monitor, exposing the thingies inside (not sure what they are but people call them caps ) which carry very high voltages and amps and accidently touching them could cause serious damage to your body.

save yourself the trouble and get it serviced professionally.

caps = capacitors

Don't EVER open up a monitor, unless you're a fully qualified and competent technician.
There's enough voltage stored in there to kill you dead 5 times over.
