Right, the point I was trying to make is that when I tried to save it from Notepad it would always add the (.txt) extension. It was my understanding (from a Google search on "modifying Hosts file"), that it (host) did not have an extension (which I see in ETC it does not). So, this was one of the complications I ran into....how to save the modified (copy and pasting your list) Host file without an extension.
Oh, and the item, "Hide file extensions for known filetypes" was already unchecked.
Anyway, in my Spybot v1.3>Tools>Hosts File I can see the Hosts List there.
Again now, this is all new to me and I don't want to screw anything up so I'm being very attentive to your instructions.
Can I copy and paste your list into the Spybot list?

If not, what would be my next step please.

BTW, there shouldnt be a single ad in k-lite 2.6
Ensure all these entries are in your HOSTS file:
hmmm, this is rather odd!
It's been a few days now since resolving the problem I had with ads
that I was still getting in my K-Lite v2.6 Search page. Once I put
those entries supplied by Lite in my HOST file the ads went away
and all was fine
....until I started KL this morning.....

BTW, I checked and my HOST file is "ON"......
What could be going on?
Thank you,

Hi Lite,
Thanks for your reply.
All is well.
Yes, that was one of the first things I did when I saw that the ads had come back.
Those entries I had added from your list were still there in host.
Somehow my Host file had been turned off and DRIVERS>ETC contained a host.off file that I was prompted to delete "before changing the host file" (not sure how the message I received read word for word but it told me I had to delete the host.off before proceding). So I went to that file and deleted it.
Even after removing host.off the ads did not go away (I had restarted my browser and also KL).
I was prompted that I "may have to restart your browser before changes can take affect".
But as it turned out I had to restart my computer.
Once I did that and opened K-Lite 2.6 the ads were gone and have not returned since.
So, I have no idea how host.off happened (quirk of nature? act of God?).
I doubt it would happen without me having to have done something to cause it but I can't pinpoint any activity I would have been doing that would be related.
Oh well.
I think what I've learned to this point is:
>how to add entries to my host file (turned out to be easy once the "Read Only" attribute was unchecked).
>if ads return, look for host.off
>delete host.off
>restart my computer
I don't know if what happened to me this time is a common occurrence in other's computers or if I am an isolated case.
For the time being however, I am ad-free.
Thanks again,
mrlessk
