how do you know what kind of router you have, on mine it just says the company name (ironically "terayon"<-- my router is not listed on that site that you posted), i don't know the model number, is their a way to check what model/company router you have through some software or say control panel?Originally posted by Twister@4 August 2004 - 04:31

oh, i just find out i don't have a router, i have a cable modem (i have cable internet) and the modem's name is terayon but i cannot find the model number. (there are 3 plugs coming from it, 2 of which go into the computer, the third goes out of the house, 1 of the plugs that goes to the computer looks a lot like a telephone jack.) any suggestions on how to open up ports (if i can that is) on my modem?
If you dont have a router how are you going to forward ports that you dont have? If u are expieriencing slow speeds, turn off XP's firewall.
Start > Control Panel > Network connetions > Right-click ? Properties > Advanced > Uncheck
If you have some firewall software, you may have to allow a specifial connection for the bt client you are using.
already unchecked, so does that mean (and no i do not have a firewall installed, although it's time to do so, installing as we speak) that i cannot get any faster speeds than i already am getting? (of course it's going to slow down even more after install the firewall, but i can bypass it to let bittorrent client be allowed to download right? i'm using zonealarm)Originally posted by SingaBoiy@4 August 2004 - 07:24

Yes you can have it 'bypass'.
What internet speed do you have? If you dont know go here.
Try changing the ports in bt. Some ISPs are throttling the default bt ports.
Yes. And some sites block those ports too for that reason.Originally posted by TheRealDave@4 August 2004 - 02:48
