Are`nt the boxers ameteurs though.??
Yeah they are, also there are other weird rules like the football teams have to use players under 21 - with the exception of three squad members.

I don't understand it either [/b][/quote]
Wouldn't that be age discrimination for no good reason?

I suppose it is. Using that reasoning I could regain my place in the local under-14's soccer team under threat of legal action and become the all conquering hero my latent talent demands

Maybe not as it clearly states boy under fourteen and as there is probably an option to join for older players.

But the olympics are for the nation's finest athletes, not for the finest athletes under 21. I don't get why they'd had that rule.

Hrm. I suppose my quest for glory weill have to be put on hold then.

I don't get that rule either SnnY, maybe it's because when soccer was introduced to the Olympics, about 12 years ago I think, the Olympic regulatory body knew that the main footballing countries wouldn't take it seriously anyway so decided to make a rule that would give some youngsters an opportunity to play for their countries that they would not normally get.

I think that the under 21 rule was introduced as a roundabout way to prevent it becoming a 'world cup' of professional footballers.

You mean like the USA Basketball Dream Team.

I thought that was hilarious. The best players from the only serious league in the world, playing against .... well people who weren't good enought to get into the NBA.

Quelle surprise when they won.

But it still sounds like discrimination somehow, and not in a good way.

It'd probably have been better to have been honest then and just tweaked the rules for allowing pros to just allowing three of them or something.
